1st Latin American Conference on Ethics in Artificial Intelligence
Aug, 16 2024

The 1st Latin American Ethics on Artificial Intelligence Conference (LAAI-Ethics) emerges as a platform to discuss the urgent need for ethical considerations in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Brazil is a key country in Latin America and, as such, is in a position to influence discussions and developments toward ethical and responsible AI in the region. By bringing together various stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, and industry professionals from diverse fields—computing, communication, healthcare, law, philosophy, and more—the event aims to foster dialogue and raise awareness about the need for practical and well-founded solutions for a more ethical, responsible, and inclusive AI.
The main motivation for the event stems from the recognition of shared historical trajectories among Latin American countries, highlighting the need to develop their own solutions to address this challenge. However, the event also acknowledges the universality of ethical concerns in AI and the potential for solutions developed in other countries to contribute to ethical AI development at the regional level. By inviting global participants to join the discussion, LAAI-Ethics promotes dialogue on problems and solutions. The event aims to help build local capacity for understanding and implementing ethical AI practices. Additionally, by fostering inclusive discussions across cultures and perspectives, LAAI-Ethics strives to create a platform where solutions can be collaboratively developed and shared.
We hope that the 1st LAAI-Ethics will be a step toward shaping a future where AI is developed and used with ethical considerations, benefiting not only Brazil and Latin American countries but also the global community.
The event will be held in a hybrid format, with lectures and discussion panels simultaneously streamed on YouTube. All presenters will attend the event in person.
