National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad Reveals Talents and Selects Brazilian Team for International Competition in China
Jul, 24 2025

The latest edition of the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (ONIA) concluded with impressive results, showcasing the potential of young Brazilian talents in one of today’s most strategic fields. A total of 235 students from 18 states were awarded, with 28 gold medals, 57 silver medals, 92 bronze medals, and 58 honorable mentions.
One of the highlights of this edition was the participation of female students, who accounted for 27% of the awards, reinforcing the importance of diversity and inclusion in the technology sector.
Organized by the Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIA/LNCC), EDUSPACE, and H2IA/UFPel, the Olympiad mobilized schools across the country, encouraging the teaching of AI from basic education onward. “ONIA is the result of a collective effort between institutions committed to education, science, and technological inclusion. Seeing so many young students engaged in artificial intelligence—many still in basic education—shows that we are building a solid and diverse innovation ecosystem from an early age. The IIA is proud to be part of this development,” said Gabriela Moraes, a researcher at IIA leading the collaborative actions behind ONIA.
In addition to recognizing top performances, the competition also served as a qualifying round for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), which will take place in August 2025, in Beijing, China.
“Participating in the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence is a transformative experience that strengthens students’ technical and civic education, establishing them as inspiring role models for a new generation. By representing Brazil on one of the world’s most important stages of knowledge, these young people strategically position the country on the global AI innovation map, highlighting the potential of Brazilian education when focused on valuing talent and science,” said Professor Richard Lucht of EDUSPACE.
More than just recognizing outstanding performances, ONIA valued collective effort: all participants and teachers received digital certificates, and physical medals will be sent to the winners, thanks to sponsor support.
With a successful edition, ONIA is now established as one of Brazil’s leading platforms for promoting artificial intelligence, paving the way for a more technological, diverse, and inclusive future.
