1st National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (ONIA 2024/2025)

The 1st edition of the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (ONIA) marks the beginning of an important initiative aimed at promoting knowledge in Artificial Intelligence among basic education students in Brazil. Launched in 2024, ONIA is created with the goal of democratizing access to AI education, fostering computational thinking, and encouraging the interest of young talents in the fields of science and technology.

The olympiad adopts an educational and challenging approach, with activities and exams that explore fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence, logical reasoning, data science, and problem solving. The initiative seeks to stimulate students’ scientific curiosity and contribute to the education of new generations prepared to operate in a world increasingly driven by data and intelligent technologies.

The Artificial Intelligence Institute of LNCC (IIA-LNCC) plays a central role in the initiative, supporting the organization of the olympiad and contributing to the consolidation of ONIA as a space for training, talent discovery, and integration between basic education and scientific research in Artificial Intelligence.

In addition to promoting learning and engagement among students across the country, ONIA also represents an important step toward Brazil’s participation in the international landscape of Artificial Intelligence scientific olympiads, serving as part of the process for selecting and preparing the Brazilian team that participates in the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).

The first edition of ONIA establishes the foundations for consolidating the olympiad as a national initiative dedicated to the development of young talents in AI, strengthening the ecosystem of innovation and scientific education in Brazil. At the end of the competition, in 2025, among the gold medalists of ONIA, four students are selected to compose the Brazilian team that represents the country at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), held in Beijing, China.
