Rio as a Hub for Open and Sovereign AI: Strategic Seminar

The “Rio as a Hub for Open and Sovereign AI” Seminar will bring together representatives from the public sector, the scientific community, technology companies, and civil society to collaboratively build the Artificial Intelligence strategy for the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The meeting follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed between FINEP, BNDES, Eletrobras, and the City of Rio de Janeiro, which formalizes cooperation for the development of the Rio AI City project. The initiative aims to position the city as a reference in artificial intelligence, integrating public policies, technological infrastructure, and collaboration among different actors, with a focus on responsible innovation and social impact.

The program will feature thematic panels covering topics such as the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA) and applications in climate, energy, health, education, science, and data infrastructure. Among the invited speakers, a highlight is Professor Fábio Porto, Coordinator of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (IIA-LNCC), who will take part in the panel on Science, Research, Training, and Ethics in AI, sharing insights on the role of national research in fostering open, ethical, and collaborative AI.

On the second day, the seminar will conclude with a synthesis session led by rapporteurs, consolidating the proposals presented and defining concrete results, commitments, and timelines to strengthen the AI ecosystem in Rio de Janeiro.
