1st IIA-LNCC Workshop: Strengthening the Scientific and Technological Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence in Brazil

With the goal of promoting the engagement of the scientific community in discussions and projects related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) and the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC/MCTI) held the 1st Workshop of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIA-LNCC) on December 16, 2024, at its headquarters in Petrópolis (RJ). This event marked a milestone in strengthening collaboration between academia, science, and the technology sector around the advancements and challenges in AI.
The IIA-LNCC is committed to promoting Brazil's scientific and technological progress in AI by identifying demands and researchers, organizing meetings, training sessions, and technical visits, and encouraging participation in international initiatives. The workshop was designed to share the institute’s achievements in its first year of activities and foster strategic discussions with the scientific and academic community.
The workshop featured the participation of Fábio de Oliveira Borges, Director of LNCC; Fábio Porto, Coordinator of IIA-LNCC; Cristina Akemi Shimoda, General Coordinator of the General Coordination of Digital Transformation (CGTR/MCTI); and Guilherme de Paula Corrêa, General Coordinator of the General Coordination of Digital Technologies (CGTD/MCTI), along with renowned researchers and speakers from the national and international scientific community.
During the event, the key outcomes of the IIA-LNCC’s first year of activities were presented, along with innovative research developed by leading experts. The event gathered 250 participants, including specialists, researchers, and AI enthusiasts, emphasizing the significance of AI. The program also included poster sessions, where 13 research projects were showcased, fostering idea exchange and collaboration among participants.
The event stood out for driving discussions on the future of Artificial Intelligence in Brazil, creating opportunities to strengthen collaborations and reinforce the role of science and technology as key drivers of the country's development. The high engagement and impact of the discussions highlight the importance of initiatives like the IIA-LNCC in positioning Brazil as a global leader in AI.
