IIA-LNCC boosts Brazilian participation in IOAI Bulgaria

The first International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), held in Burgas, Bulgaria, marks a significant milestone in the global recognition of AI as a field of study and a critical skill.

The Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIA-LNCC) is responsible for identifying the demands of the scientific community in AI and promoting Brazilian participation in global initiatives.

As part of efforts to encourage young talents in this multidisciplinary field, which encompasses various areas of knowledge and a set of emerging technologies, the IIA-LNCC supported the Brazilian delegation. The team consisted of three medalists from the Brazilian AI Olympiad: Millena Xavier Martins (Juiz de Fora - MG), Allany de Melo Camacho (Rio de Janeiro - RJ), and Leonardo Candeias Massoni (Jundiaí - SP); one medalist from the Brazilian Linguistics Olympiad, André Solovjovas Leite (São José dos Campos - SP); a Ph.D. student from UFPel serving as Team Leader, Kristofer Stift Kappel (Pelotas - RS); and the coordinator of the national AI Olympiad acting as an observer, Antônio Henrique Carlan Junior (Porto Alegre - RS). The Brazilian AI Olympiad has been held since 2021 and will launch its fourth edition in September.

The national Olympiad is responsible for selecting the Brazilian team that will participate in the International Olympiad in AI (IOAI), with the 2025 edition set to take place in Beijing, China. The event was created to pioneer accessible AI knowledge at the high school level in Brazil, demystifying the subject and raising public awareness about the opportunities and risks associated with the rise of artificial intelligence worldwide.

Hosting such events helps identify new talent by bringing together the best young minds, fostering an inspiring and collaborative community.

The IOAI emphasizes the importance of AI education at various levels, encouraging schools to incorporate AI into their curricula, promoting cultural exchange among students from different backgrounds, and fostering understanding and international cooperation.

The first International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence has proven to be a catalyst for accelerating AI development, inspiring future generations, and strengthening global collaboration in this transformative field.
